The Fabiana Filippi S/S 2019 collection draws inspiration from the idyllic landscapes of Île Sainte-Marie, off the coast of Madagascar.

The memory of a summer holiday set amid intoxicating nature is evoked in the refined colours of the garments: bright shades of uncontaminated vegetation, rocky sea beds that shine through the crystalline green of the sea, golden flashes of incredibly fine sand, an entrancing quartz-like glimmer along the shore and the optical white of dunes under the midday sun. Heading to the heart of the island, the hues take on the material qualities of the hinterland in amaranth, plum and anthracite. Garments are steeped in delicate floral pastels, from lavender to yellow, to then offer a sophisticated botanical pattern, the season’s iconic print.

Tonal richness is mirrored in the opulence of always-airy materials: linen that’s fresh, coated or chintzed and ottoman complemented by ephemeral or even glossy satin. The collection’s pieces cross through different landscapes as if gently pushed by the breeze, like moving clouds with ethereal transparencies: exquisite embroidery in voile, organza and chiffon, tulle and fil coupé. Rustles of flounces and plissés with ineffable delicacy.

Fabric caresses the body with asymmetric lines, experimenting with silhouettes that go from just-outlined shapes to sculptural geometries. The suit, in crisp linen, becomes a modern, deconstructed kimono. The jacket takes on a new boxy, cropped cut. Shirts and tops have a relaxed, comfortable feel while flared trousers are embellished by lateral bands. Even the performance fabric used on outerwear has been reinterpreted and given an impalpable, voluptuous quality.

The result is modern couture that embraces its sportier, street-style elements with luxurious ease. Lyrical, captivating accessories then complete the tale of a precious, sensual season.
